The review meeting for the group standard “Sodium-ion Batteries for Electric Bicycles” was successfully held.

On September 13th, the China Bicycle Association organized a review meeting for the group standard “Sodium-ion Batteries for Electric Bicycles.” This standard was jointly drafted by multiple organizations, including Wuxi Inspection and Testing Certification Institute, Xiamen Xineng’an Technology Co., Ltd., Xingheng Power Co., Ltd., Tianneng Battery Group Co., Ltd., Zhejiang CFMOTO Power Co., Ltd., Aima Technology Group Co., Ltd., Yadea Technology Group Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Xinri Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd., Aile Power Technology (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., Ninebot (Changzhou) Technology Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Niu Electric Technology Co., Ltd., Liyang Zhongke Haina Technology Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Zhongna Energy Technology Co., Ltd., Shanghai Hello Puhui Technology Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Luyuan Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd., Hangzhou Qingqi Technology Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Tianhong Lithium Battery Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Xinna New Material Technology Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Huayu Sodium Battery New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., Nanjing Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute (Nanjing Quality Development and Advanced Technology Application Research Institute), Jiaxing Weikai Testing Technology Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Fangyuan Testing Group Co., Ltd., Changxing County Fire and Rescue Brigade of Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province, Jiangsu Normal University, and Shanxi Bicycle and Electric Vehicle Industry Association. The meeting was chaired by Yang Li, deputy director of the Technical Standards Department of the China Bicycle Association.

At the meeting, representatives of the standard drafting working group gave a detailed report on the standard’s drafting process, core technical content, and the solicitation of opinions. The expert review group reviewed the draft standard and offered specific suggestions for revision. The expert review group concluded that the draft standard was structurally sound, comprehensive in content, filled a gap in existing standards, and met the principles of uniformity, scientific rigor, and operability. They unanimously agreed to approve the standard and recommended that the drafting group revise and improve it based on the review comments, and submit a final draft for approval as soon as possible for publication as an association group standard.

Sodium-ion batteries, as a novel chemical power source system, share a similar insertion/extraction mechanism with lithium-ion batteries. Research and development of sodium-ion batteries can alleviate the limitations on the development of new energy batteries caused by lithium resource shortages. In the foreseeable future, sodium-ion batteries will have a significant competitive advantage in applications such as electric two-wheelers and large-scale energy storage. However, there are currently no readily available product standards or specifications both domestically and internationally. This is primarily because sodium-ion batteries are still in the early stages of industrialization globally, and the upstream and downstream supply chains are not yet fully mature. Nevertheless, relevant companies and industry professionals have gradually begun to focus on the development of sodium-ion battery standards. This standard will play a positive role in promoting and guiding the standardization of sodium-ion battery product research and development, application, testing, and quality, thereby regulating market order and driving technological advancements.

The China Bicycle Association has always aimed to cultivate market awareness of implementing group standards and to enhance the transformation of industry-wide innovation achievements into standards and specifications. It actively expands the scope of group standard work and hopes that more companies will join the association’s standardization efforts, becoming contributors, participants, users, and beneficiaries of group standard work.
